In the role of assistant news director, I work primarily to execute the daily operations within the news department. This includes scheduling of staff, working closely with the news director, assignment editor and executive producer in deciding stories to be covered and what resources should be devoted to each story. Planning is also a part of this job, as it relates to future stories and special reports.
I started at NEWSCHANNEL 13 in 1996 as the assignment editor. I held this post for nearly five years before leaving KRDO to take a position at a public relations agency in Colorado Springs. I then returned to NEWSCHANNEL 13 about a year later as the assistant news director.
I have a master's degree in journalism from the University of Iowa and an undergraduate degree from Coe College in political science. I worked in radio news in Iowa and Illinois for eight years before coming to NEWSCHANNEL 13. Journalism was an interest of mine for years. During my senior year of high school, I had an internship at KRDO in the news department and it only served to confirm my interest and excitement for news.
