Tri-Lakes / Monument district awarded funding for new firefighters.
The Tri-Lakes Monument Fire Protection District will soon add some new staff, thanks to a newly awarded federal grant.
The Department of Homeland Security has awarded the district with $615,804 in competitive grant funds.
The money will be used to hire additional firefighters.
The competitive grant was issued under the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response program. The grant funds allow fire departments to hire or retain firefighters and enhance their abilities to protect the public.
After a summer of devastating wildfires across Colorado, Senator Mark Udall had been encouraging local fire departments to apply for the grant monies.
The Senator issued a statement today congratulating Tri Lakes Monument on their award, saying "Throughout this year, we have seen how firefighters have been instrumental to battling blazes throughout the state. These competitive grant funds will help the Tri-Lakes Monument Fire Protection District keep firefighters on the job and protect the people of Monument."
