Amy Adams was born in Italy on Aug. 20, 1974, to American parents. Her family was living in Italy while her father served as a U.S. serviceman.
She grew up in a Mormon family in Castle Rock, Colo., with her six siblings.
Adams aspired to be a ballerina growing up and performed as a dancer in a local company. She worked at The Gap and Hooters to support herself until she landed a job at a Boulder dinner theater.
Adams then moved to Minneapolis to continue her work in dinner theater. While in Minnesota she landed a role in “Drop Dead Gorgeous” in 1999.
Adams eventually moved to L.A. to pursue a career as an actress.
Adams landed small roles in various television roles before being cast in her first big movie – “Catch Me If You Can,” starring Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio.
In 2005 she appeared in “The Wedding Date,” where she starred alongside Dermot Mulroney and Debra Messing.
She starred alongside Will Ferrell in the 2006 comedy “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.”
In 2007 Adams landed the starring role in “Enchanted.”
She joined the likes of Philip Seymour Hoffman and Meryl Streep in “Doubt” in 2008.
She joined Streep again in 2009 in “Julie & Julia.”
In 2010 Adams starred in “The Fighter” alongside Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg.”
Adams starred alongside Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix in “The Master” in 2012. She received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
In 2012 she joined Clint Eastwood and Justin Timberlake in “Trouble with the Curve.”
She played Lois Lane in the 2013 blockbuster “Man of Steel.”
Adams played in two Oscar-nominated films in 2013. She joined Phoenix in “Her” and she starred alongside Bale, Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper in “American Hustle.”
Adams earned an Oscar nomination for her role in “American Hustle.” She also won the Golden Globe for her performance.
