How much would you pay to have snails crawling across your face?

In Japan, women are ponying up hundreds for the hot new beauty fad known as snail facials, in which several of the mollusks are placed on your cheeks and forehead and spread their slimy goo across your face, the Telegraph reported.

According to Ci:z:Labo spa, snail slime is packed with proteins, antioxidents and hyaluronic acid, which helps the skin retain moisture and reduce redness.

The treatment, which also includes a mask and electrical pulse machines, is touted as a way heal damaged skin and "promote beauty."

However, dermatologists in the United States are skeptical.

With the other treatments offered, it's hard to know what is having any effect. And any long-term benefits from the hyaluronic acid would be washed away if simply applied to the skin.

"I'd be surprised if this has any lasting effect on skin health," Dr. William Stebbins, a dermatology professor at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, told ABC News.
