What started out as "goofing off" turned into disaster when three kids burning ants sparked a wildfire in Arizona.

Two girls, ages 13 and 14, apparently tried to stomp out the fire near a hospital in Flagstaff while a boy who was with them ran away when the blaze started Wednesday, the Arizona Sun reported.

A neighbor who heard a commotion outside strung together garden hoses and sprayed water on the fire.

Another neighbor filled a bucket with water and threw it on the blaze, according to The Associated Press.

The Flagstaff Fire Department hosed down the area to make sure the fire was out.

The girls were referred to juvenile court to face reckless burning charges.
