Threats force Fremont County schools into lockout

Two potential threats forced Fremont County Schools into lockout Friday (5/16/14).
The first threat was directed at the Federal Correctional Complex in Florence. It was called in to the facility at 7:15 a.m.
The Department of Justice says the caller threatened to facilitate the escape of several inmates. The threat is not believed to be credible. Security has been stepped up at the facility.
The source of the threat is under investigation.
Schools in Fremont County School District RE-1 and Fremont County School District RE-2 were placed on lockout as a precaution.
However, Canon City Police say their lockout was facilitated by a report of a device being placed at a school in Florence. That threat was received at around 9 a.m. Canon City Police say the Florence threat turned out not to be credible.
Florence Police were unable to confirm the information provided by Canon City Police to KRDO NewsChannel 13.
It's unclear whether the two situations are linked.
A lockout status means that business will go on as usual inside the school, but no one will be allowed to enter.
