AURORA, Colo. -

A 14-year-old girl walking to school Thursday morning was hit by an unknown car and then put into the blue sedan and driven to a nearby convenience store, Aurora police told our sister station in Denver, 7News.

The teenager was crossing Colfax Avenue at Laredo Street and the lights were in her favor when she was hit by a southbound car and knocked down, said Aurora police Lt. Chuck DeShazer.

Police spokesman Frank Fania said the girl could not get up and may have been in shock.

The driver picked her up by her coat and put her in his car against her will, DeShazer said.

The man then drove east, made a U-turn, went west, made another U-turn then dropped her off at the 7-Eleven on Colfax and Laredo, not far from the accident scene, police said.

Police don't know if he had the intention of taking the girl to the hospital but think he panicked and did not intend to kidnap her.

The girl suffered bumps and bruises, but was taken to the hospital by paramedics because she is a juvenile and her parents weren't there.

This occurred around 6 a.m.  Police are now searching for the hit-and-run driver but have not released a good description of the driver or his car.

Fania said the case is being turned over from the traffic unit to the Crimes Against Children's Unit. He said officers are working to get a copy of the video surveillance from the 7-Eleven.
