Some fake $100 bills are circulating Colorado Springs, prompting the police department to alert businesses and citizens to be extra cautious.
The counterfeit bill is a genuine one dollar bill that has been washed out and then imprinted with a one hundred dollar bill.
When this occurs, police say unaware businesses that use the marking pen to validate the currency are duped because the paper is good.
Police say that businesses will have to make a visual inspection of the larger bills in addition to using the validation pen. A close inspection will usually reveal some elements of the washed out bill, police said. A photo of the counterfeit bill is shown above.
Other currency protections will also not be evident such as holograms, etc.
Investigators with the Colorado Springs Police Department want to alert businesses and citizens to be extra cautious when accepting $100 bills.
