A New Mexico dive team was called in to help in the search for 13-year-old Dylan Redwine in La Plata County. A spokesman with the La Plata County Sheriff's Office said a K-9 unit alerted on Vallecito Lake.
Officials said the dive team will search the area that was alerted to see what is causing the dogs to alert the area. The Sheriff's spokesman said when a dog alerts it means they are picking up a strong scent in the area and it is not clear what the scent could be or if it is connected to Dylan's disappearance.
Redwine lives in Colorado Springs with his mother and went missing Monday after he visiting his father in Vallecito for the Thanksgiving holiday, officials said. His father, Mark Redwine, told investigators he left his home on County Road 500 to do some errands and when he returned Dylan was gone.
Two-hundred people have joined the effort to look for Dylan, officials said. Citizen volunteers have canvassed the Vallecito area and went door-to-door handing out flyers in the bayfield area where Dylan spent much of his time before moving to Colorado Springs.
La Plata County officials said several agencies have joined in the search. La Plata Mounted Patrol Searched on horseback and ATV. A San Juan County New Mexico Sheriff's Office helicopter conducted air searches. The Colorado Bureau of Investigations have also joined the investigation.
A photo and information of Dylan has also been posted on the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children website.
"It was disheartening to look at the website this morning and see not only Dylan's picture but the faces of 18 other children staring back at me," said LPCSO PIO Dan Bender. "Sheriff's Office personnel working to find Dylan are fathers, mothers, and grandparents. Each of us feel Dylan's family's pain and know something could just as easily happen to our loved ones" Bender said.
Dylan is described as 13 years old, 5 feet tall, 105 pounds, blond hair, blue eyes, fair complexion. He was last seen wearing: blue and white Duke Blue Devils baseball cap, black Nike t-shirt, black basketball shorts; black Jordan tennis shoes, and a black backpack.
