Early morning homicide and gun violence frustrate neighbors

One Colorado Springs neighborhood said it was frustrated by ongoing gun violence in its neighborhood. Police were called to Cedar Creek Club Apartments on South Chelton at 12:34 a.m. to investigate reports of gunshots.
When they arrived at the complex, police found a gunshot victim and took him to the hospital. He was pronounced dead. Two other men with gunshot wounds showed up later at local hospitals. Police said they would likely recover from their injuries.
One neighbor who wished not to be identified heard the men arguing about cocaine outside his front door. Then, the gun went off. He said people started shouting that someone was shot in the neck and to call the police.
Police said at this point in the investigation, they are not looking for any other suspects. Larry Herbert with Colorado Springs Police Department said detectives have contacted and identified everyone they believe was involved in the incident.
The news was a relief to neighbors, but that doesn't change their frustration over ongoing gun violence where they live.
"I heard someone in the complex, 'I got shot! Or something like that,'" said Johnny Vanderpool. "It's just bad over here for no reason. We're good citizens. People just want to mess up our neighborhood."
Vanderpool and his neighbor Anphony Chavez recounted multiple incidents of gun shots fired in the past months. Four neighbors said they heard shots fired early Tuesday evening.
Chavez and his fiancee heard the shots last night and thought first of their children.
"They were scared, they were asleep but we moved them into the hallway because this always happens," said Chavez.
Chavez and his family are new to the area.
"I don't like it at all, it's a very bad area," said Chavez. "We don't like to let the kids out, even in the day time you have to be with them, it's pretty scary around here."
Chavez plans to move his family out of the area at the beginning of next month.
Police haven't released information about anyone involved in the shooting.
