An Ellicott home is a total loss after it caught fire on Thursday morning.
Fire crews are battling the blaze in the 6900 block of Sphinx Court near the intersection of Falcon Highway and JD Johnson Road.
The Falcon Fire Chief tells KRDO NewsChannel 13 that there have been three explosions caused by oxygen tanks in the home.
"The first explosion happened it actually knocked the firefighter down because he was right by the window and the window blasted out," said Mark Bounds, a nearby neighbor.
The Falcon Fire Department Chief, Cory Galicia, said the firefighter who fell was treated on scene. He said the firefighter sustained minor injuries to his hand.
Neighbor tell us the fire appears to have started in the laundry room.
The cause of the fire is under investigation but is considered accidental.
Falcon Fire tells us that seven people live at the home but no one was present at the time of the fire. All family members have been accounted for and are safe. Some pets were rescued but it is believed that one pet was lost in the fire.
Due to the high winds, fire crews were having a difficult time getting the fire under control, crews said. No other structures are being threatened at this time.
