Five people, including a baby, were hurt in a crash in Peyton Sunday afternoon.

State Troopers said the driver of a Volkswagen Jetta was headed west on Jones road when it traveled into the oncoming lane.

The Volkswagen hit a Mazda sedan head-on, according to investigators..

Drivers of both cars had to be extricated, officials said.

The driver of the Volkswagen, 25-year-old Sarah Larocca of Peyton, and her passenger, 27-year-old Evan Losee, were not wearing their seat belts and were seriously hurt.  A one-year-old baby in the car was properly buckled in but was also seriously hurt.

The Mazda Driver,  53-year-old Sheldon Carster of Calhan, and his passenger, 52-year-old Connie Carson were seriously hurt. They were both wearing seat belts.

Investigators said speed was a factor in this crash. Jones Road was closed for about two hours after the crash happened at about 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
