KRDO Newschannel 13's Lindsay Watts talks to a close friend of Justin Dore following his death on Saturday.

Family and friends of a man killed at a Colorado Springs motel describe him as a loving father who made some bad choices.

Justin Dore, 29, died Saturday morning after being shot at the Days Inn on Rusina Road near I-25. Police said the call came in as an accidental shooting, but when they arrived at the motel, the accused trigger man, Billie Thomas Allen, was gone.

Allen turned himself in to authorities in Canon City Sunday afternoon and is facing a manslaughter charge. He has prior convictions for drugs and harassment.

Family said that Dore knew Allen and that they were both involved with drugs. But those who knew Dore said he was a good man who didn't deserve this.

"He loved his daughter," said Dore's friend Elizabeth Murphy. "He was great dad."

Murphy said Dore was like a father to her son and shared a birthday card Dore made for him.

"Be good and enjoy life. You only get one shot at it. Love always," Murphy read from the homemade card.

Dore served time in prison for drug charges and had a pending theft case.

"He's not a bad guy," said Murphy. "He just got a little lost and unfortunately, before he found out he could change, he lost his life."

Dore's wife, Amber Griffey, shared a photo of Dore with his daughter.

"This is the person he should be remembered as," Griffey said. "He may not have always made the best choices, but he loved us deeply."
