DENVER (AP) — Police say a body has been found near an open space area in the Denver suburb of Arvada.
Westminster police spokesman Trevor Materasso said Wednesday night that so far, police are unable to connect it to the disappearance of 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway, whose mother last saw her leaving for school Friday.
Three sources told ABC News that investigators have reason to believe the body is the missing girl.
Video taken just before 9 p.m. by our sister station, KMGH in Denver, showed investigators surrounding something in what appeared to be a plastic bag in a field.
Investigators said another news conference would be held Thursday at 6:30 a.m.
The Pattridge Park open space area south of the Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge is dotted with abandoned coal mines. The area is favored by road bikers and model airplane flyers on weekends.
It is a few miles from Jessica's home and several miles south of where Jessica's backpack was found in Superior.
Jessica's father, who lives in Independence, Mo., and mother have pleaded for her safe return.
