A volunteer at the Marian House may inspire you to think about doing more to help others on this Thanksgiving holiday.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

Volunteers at the Marian House served a Thanksgiving feast with all the fixings to hundreds of people in need.

They started cooking early Thursday morning and opened the doors at 10:30 a.m.

One of the volunteers, Charles Fortson, said he helps cook every week.

Fortson once needed help from the Marian House and now that he is able to help others, he said it has changed his life.

A few weeks ago, volunteers contacted KRDO NewsChannel 13 about not having enough food to serve for Thanksgiving.

They only had 20 turkeys in the freezer.

Viewers started donating and the Marian House got more than 1,000 turkeys donated.

Volunteers said they were able to hand hundreds of those out to food kitchens throughout southern Colorado.

Marian House leaders said they are thankful to volunteers and the community that always steps up when there is a need.
