COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

Colorado Springs Police are searching for a stabbing suspect near the intersection of Palmer Park Boulevard and North Circle Drive.

Police responded to the report of a stabbing in the 1700 block of Grant Avenue around 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Police tell our KRDO NewsChannel 13 crew at the scene that a homeowner was doing housework and went to a store to get more supplies.  The homeowner returned to find a gate open and a man trying to enter through a sliding door.

The homeowner tried to stop the alleged burglar and a scuffle ensued, police said.  The burglar then allegedly grabbed a putty knife from the homeowner's tool belt and stabbed the homeowner in the side.

The homeowner was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

K-9 units are searching the area for the suspect.  He is described as a white man in his late 20s with a scruffy beard, short brown hair and was wearing a dark hoodie and dark pants.

Wasson High School and Galileo School of Math and Science were locked down briefly on Tuesday afternoon due to the police activity in the area.  Those lockdowns have since been lifted.

We're working to get more information and will keep you updated on KRDO.com and NewsChannel 13.
