The El Paso County Coroner's Office has identified the body found in Fountain on Friday as 27-year-old Nathaniel Vialpando.  The cause of death has not been released.

Vialpando's body was found in a canal that connects to Fountain Creek, behind the Riverside Mobile Home Park where Crest Road becomes Bandley Drive.  Police said the body was clothed and face down in about three feet of water, with the back covered in ice.

Fountain Police said on Monday that they responded to a call about a suspicious person at the Tomahawk Truck Stop on Dec. 2, over two months before Vialpando's body was found.  Police say Vialpando was there and eluded officers by driving north on Charter Oak Ranch Road.

Vialpando then turned eastbound into a field, crashed his truck into a pole in the field and ran away, police said.

Officers found the vehicle but could not find Vialpando.  Officers obtained an arrest warrant for Vialpando the following day.

At the time of Friday's discovery, the warrant was still active and no contact had been made with Vialpando, police said.
