KRDO Newschannel 13 learned there was a group petitioning to change the name of the famous Colorado Springs park. Officials with the park said this is unlikely as there were rules put in place when the park was gifted to the city.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

Garden of the Gods closed briefly Sunday night after someone reported seeing a gunman in the park.

Witnesses told police the man was wearing a bullet proof vest and had numerous guns.

Police sent several officers to the area and questioned at least one man about the report according to a police spokesman.

Later, another officer told KRDO Newschannel 13 they never found anyone with a gun. Police speculated that the witnesses mistook the photography equipment for weapons. Other possibilities-- it was a prank call or the man left before police arrived.

The park was briefly closed but has since reopened.
