A Pueblo man is arrested, accused of murdering his girlfriend's two month old baby girl.
Bill Anthony Martinez, 23, was taken into custody in Colorado Springs Monday night. Investigators said he was likely there because the baby was being treated at Memorial Hospital.
Investigators said the child had internal bleeding and a head injury, symptoms consistent with Shaken Baby Syndrome.
Pueblo Sheriff's Chief Charlene Graham said the baby was hurt Saturday night, but died Monday. She said on Saturday, authorities were called to the 700 block of south Joe Martinez Court in Pueblo West where they found the baby not breathing.
Graham said Martinez was caring for the baby, but the child's 33-year-old mother and two of four siblings were also in the house at the time.
"When we got there, a neighbor was performing CPR on the child," said Graham. "The subsequent investigation in Colorado Springs up at Memorial Hospital, doctors indicated the child had bruising and had a closed head injury."
Graham said she couldn't say whether the baby's mother could be facing charges. She said the woman's four other children were taken by social services and are now being cared for by relatives.
Martinez is being charged with first-degree murder.
