Stoned driving bill debated in the Colorado Sentate

Published On: Apr 22 2013 06:12:15 PM CDT

The stoned driving debate moves to the Colorado Senate, the same place where it has failed three times. The latest was just last year. Legislators could be looking to pass some kind of marijuana DUI laws fast now that marijuana is legal.

Supporters await the senate’s decision on DUI laws for marijuana fresh off their 4/20 celebrations.

Marijuana may be legal, but there are still questions about how it will be regulated. The latest proposed bill would make 5 nanograms of THC in the blood the limit. THC is the chemical in marijuana that makes a person high. If a driver is stopped they could fight those charges in court. Drunk drivers don't have that option.

The bill is being debated in the senate judiciary committee. Supporters think the limit is too low and hope this bill fails again.

The stoned driving bill has already passed the Colorado State House.
