Several new telephone scams are circling the Trinidad area, the police department announced on Friday.
The Trinidad Police Department says some people have received calls from a man with a foreign accent claiming to be "Jeff Hill" or "Jack Hill" with the Trinidad Police Department. This man is NOT associated with the Trinidad Police Department, police said.
The caller requests personal information be given to him over the phone and has threatened to arrest people. The public is urged not to give out any personal information (date of birth, social security number, bank information, etc.) over the phone.
In addition, people have received similar calls from a man claiming to be "Travis Hill" of the Dallas Law Firm asking them to purchase a "Green Dot card" from Wal-Mart and follow his instructions to receive $300,000. This is also a scam, police said.
Police say that it is important for residents to be aware that in cases like this, it is almost impossible to catch the suspect.
If you are contacted by anyone claiming to be a Trinidad Police Officer and you feel it may be a scam, ask for their contact number and return their call.
Anyone with information on this or any other case is urged to contact the Trinidad Police Department TIP line at 719-845-TIPS.
