Neighbors react to a bomb incident in Pueblo West on Karval Drive Wednesday.

Bomb squads are investigating a bomb that was found during the search of a home in Pueblo West.  The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office tells KRDO NewsChannel 13 that the improvised explosive device was enough to blow up a city block.  A second, smaller device was also removed from the home.

Deputies had consent to search a home in the 300 block of South Karval Drive on Wednesday morning.  This stems from a days-long investigation, according to the Sheriff's Office.  Deputies say 46-year-old Anthony Heptig was arrested Tuesday night for charges unrelated to the explosive device.  An anonymous tip led deputies to Heptig's mother's home, where the device was found in the garage.

Sheriff Kirk Taylor with the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office said that investigation indicated that Heptig had been experimenting with 4th of July fireworks.

Bomb squads have removed the bomb from the home and will dispose of the device properly, authorities said.

Several nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution and Liberty Point Elementary School was put on a "shelter-in-place" status during the school day.  That status has since been lifted.
