Meteorologist Jay Polk joined the StormTracker 13 team in June 2013. He comes to Colorado Springs from Albany, Ga.
Jay has several years of experience forecasting the weather and has earned his seal of approval from the American Meteorological Society.
Jay spent the last five years working as a weekend meteorologist and weekday reporter at WALB-TV in Albany. He says his greatest thrill as a reporter was interviewing former President Jimmy Carter. As a meteorologist, Jay looks forward to the challenge of forecasting the weather here in southern Colorado.
Jay started his television career at WBKP/WBUP in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, so he's no stranger to snow. In fact, he was chief meteorologist there when Marquette set a record for snowfall in a single season with 320". Jay's experience also includes weather forecasting at WSAW-TV in Wausau, Wis.
Jay says his passion goes back to his childhood. As a boy, he would watch summer thunderstorms roll through his hometown of Tampa, Fla. He earned his degree in meteorology from Florida State University.
When Jay isn't tracking storms or enjoying the beautiful weather that southern Colorado has to offer, most of the time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and 8-year-old son, Jayden. As a Tampa native, Jay's favorite sports teams are the Bucs, Rays, and Lightning. He's also passionate about soccer, tennis and astronomy.
