A high profile murder trial begins in El Paso County
A verbal volley between the prosecution and defense in the first day of the Bruce Nozolino homicide trial. There were several motions heard by the judge. One of them included the prosecution not agreeing to bring up a restraining order that Nozolino's mother was seeking against him unless the defense opens up that line of questioning.
Bruce Nozolino is accused of killing Richard Schreiner. Schreiner was shot to death while shoveling snow outside his home in 2008. Prosecutors believe Nozolino thought Schreiner was having an affair with his ex-wife. Officers also believe the Nozolino shot divorce attorney John Ciccolella in the eye, blinding him and is accused of shooting at the home of El Paso County Chief District Judge Gilbert Martinez who presided over Nozolino's divorce.
Douglas Bruce is a friend of Nozolino. The former El Paso County Commissioner and former State Representative tells us he is 100 percent positive that Nozolino is innocent. Douglas Bruce told me, "I know Bruce Nozolino and he is not a homicidal maniac which they are portraying him to be."
I called John Ciccolella, one of the men who Nozolino is accused of attacking. He wouldn't go on camera or make a statement about the man accused of shooting him. He said it would be inappropriate to make a comment.
Jury selection is expected to start next Monday.
