PUEBLO, Colo. -

More than 40 percent of those who live in Pueblo County don't have a grocery store within 10 miles of their home, according to the Pueblo City-County Health Department.

The department says for those who don't have a car or nearby bus transportation, it's difficult to make healthy choices, like eating fruits and vegetables. Health experts say the key is to prevent long-term health effects rather than having to treat them.

"We often see that individuals that live in areas that are affected by low food access, food insecurity, poor food quality, have higher rates of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease and obesity," said Christina Hopewell, public health educator for Pueblo City-County Health Department.

The health department wants Pueblo County residents to take a survey, answering questions ranging from what they eat to their access to a grocery store. To take the survey, visit: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/6SHSHYN
