Archuleta, new DOC interim director of prisons
The Colorado Department of Corrections isn't saying anything after announcing the sudden resignation of Director of Prisons Mark Flowers and the appointment of Fremont Correctional Facility warden Lou Archuleta as interim director of prisons.
A spokesperson said the changes are very recent.
In addition to his leadership at the Fremont Correctional Facility, Archuleta is listed on the executive advisory board for Colorado S.T.I.N.G. According to the organization's website, it "is a powerful weapon in the fight against illegal gangs operating in our communities, detention facilities, prisons and schools."
The experience could come in handy for Archuleta's new post. The DOC is no stranger to prison gangs. Evan Ebel was part of the 211 Crew white supremacist prison gang. Ebel is thought to have killed former DOC executive director Tom Clements.
KRDO NEWSCHANNEL 13 contacted Gov. John Hickenlooper's office for comment on Flowers' resignation and Archuleta's appointment. They said, "we have great confidence in (DOC executive director) Rick Raemisch and the direction he is taking the Department of Corrections."
