Andre Jones' anger about his estranged wife becoming pregnant by a co-worker provided the motive for him to be arrested as the suspect in her murder, according to court records obtained Wednesday.
Jones, 32, is accused of shooting Lakeisha Jones, 32, at her Colorado Springs apartment on Monday. Doctors at Memorial Hospital delivered her seven-month-old infant daughter by Caesarian section. The infant is listed in critical condition.
The affidavit provided the following details about what led to the first-degree murder charge:
The couple separated in February after Lakeisha had a brief affair with a co-worker and became pregnant. Andre paid for a paternity test and learned he wasn't the father. Lakeisha filed for divorce July 29. The couple was scheduled to meet for mediation on the afternoon of the murder.
Lakeisha told friends and family that Andre many times threatened to kill her, her baby and the baby's father. She believed Andre was stalking her, saying he had installed spyware on her phone and hacked her email account. Andre found Lakeisha's new address at the Summit Apartments even though she hadn't told him about it.
Andre wanted Lakeisha to give the baby up for adoption. Lakeisha told him to leave her alone, and that she wanted nothing more to do with him.
The baby's father said he hasn't met Andre or received any direct threats, and that he didn't know the couple still was married.
On the day before the murder, Andre drove past Lakeisha's apartment while she hosted a family gathering. He called her later and they argued about child support, the couple's three other children and a TV.
On the same day, Andre decided not to meet his family for breakfast at a truck stop, saying he had overslept and wanted to stay in bed. He told his father that he wanted to leave town and move to Arkansas.
The next morning around 7, Andre failed to show up for work at a flooring business. He later told his employers that he thought he had the day off for his scheduled mediation.
Police responded to the shooting just before 9:30 a.m. and found Lakeisha on her front porch near the door. The back door showed signs of forced entry. A witness identified Andre as the man leaving the area in a hurry after the shooting.
Police found Andre around 5 p.m. at his brother's house in Fountain. Andre said he denied that he saw Lakeisha that day, and that he didn't threaten to kill her or her baby. However, he admitted to threatening the baby's father "out of anger." he also admitted he owns a handgun that he keeps locked in a safe.
A man at the house declined comment Wednesday.
"They said we can't say anything," he said.
KRDO NewsChannel 13 tried to contact members of Andre's and Lakeisha's family, but they didn't return messages.
It's unclear what will happen to the couple's three children -- ages 12, 10 and 4.
