Bill in Congress to name new VA clinic after Medal of Honor recipient

A Southern Colorado Medal of Honor recipient may be getting the recognition he deserves.
A bill in Congress would name the new Department of Veterans Affairs in Colorado Springs after a World War II soldier killed in action, Private First Class Floyd Lindstrom.
His grave at the Evergreen Cemetery is one among thousands of others, many who lost their lives fighting for our country.
"I wish I would've known him because from the things that I've learned about he was an awesome guy,” said Keith LaMee, an American Legion Post Five member.
Private First Class Floyd Lindstrom was killed 70 years ago in World War II.
"The more I dug, the more it kind of put under a bur under my saddle to say this gentleman should be recognized,” said LaMee.
LaMee and other veterans want Lindstrom's name at the new VA Clinic in Colorado Springs on Fillmore Street and Centennial Boulevard. Republican Congressman Doug Lamborn is behind a bill to make it happen.
"I think it is so appropriate to name this facility for a Colorado Springs veteran," said Congressman Lamborn.
Lindstrom graduated from Cheyenne Mountain High School. He joined the Army in 1942 and went to war.
LaMee has a book full of Lindstrom's life, a life that was cut too short. Lindstrom died on February 3, 1944.
"Here's a man that could've avoided being killed, but chose to stay with his men because he felt that obligation,” said LaMee.
That obligation earned him the military's highest honor, the Medal of Honor. Lindstrom also received the Silver Star, the Purple Heart and two Italian crosses after World War II.
Now, veterans in his hometown could have a chance to remember him, too, if the new VA clinic is named after Lindstrom.
"His is a life worth remembering, especially here on Memorial Day,” said Congressman Lamborn.
"He ultimately paid the supreme sacrifice for our freedom,” said LaMee.
The bill to name the VA clinic after Floyd Lindstrom is being discussed in committee right now. KRDO NewsChannel 13 will keep track of it for you.
