SECURITY-WIDEFIELD, Colo. -

The Colorado State Patrol is searching for the hit-and-run driver who seriously injured a blind man in Security-Widefield.

The incident happened at 9:26 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9, 2013. Brian Mackes, 43, of Colorado Springs was badly hurt.

Investigators say a red 1992 Volkswagen Cabriolet was traveling northbound on Clearview Frontage Road near the intersection of Hancock Expressway and Bradley Road when the man was hit.

Mackes was standing in the roadway when he was hit. Troopers say that the driver pulled into a nearby parking lot. Two or three men got out of the car and stood over the victim for a moment before running away on foot.

Troopers say they believe the driver was an older, heavy-set Hispanic man with salt and pepper colored hair. They say he works at a business near where the crash happened, and has not been to work since.

The Colorado State Patrol says it has reason to believe that the driver's name is Jose Salvador, but that is not confirmed.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call the Colorado State Patrol at 719-544-2424.
