Michael Morlang and Justina Perez.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

A 2-year-old is found safe after being left alone in a car that ended up being stolen.

It happened just after 10 p.m. Tuesday in the 900 block of S. Union Boulevard.

Police say Michael Morlang was driving, and pulled the vehicle into a 7-Eleven parking lot to get money from an automated teller machine. Morlang and his passenger, Justina Perez went into the store. The pair left the child in the back seat of the car, and the keys in the ignition according to investigators.

Police believe someone stole the car while Morlang and Perez were inside the convenience store. A suspect in the theft has not yet been identified.

Police were called and investigators say Morlang's and Perez's stories didn't match up.

Michael Morlang was arrested at the scene and is facing charges of attempting to influence a public official, child abuse and charges related to an outstanding warrant.

Justina Perez is facing an obstruction charge and had several outstanding warrants.

Police say they found the child asleep and unharmed after the car was spotted by a police officer parked at a roadside a short time later.

The vehicle and the 2-year-old belong to Tayanna White-Morlang. She has been reunited with her child.
