Springs police are crediting tips from citizens with helping officers track down a reported kidnapping victim and make an arrest.
It all started around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, according to a release from the police department.
A citizen called police and reported he saw a woman being held and prevented from getting out of an SUV near Fountain and Shasta drives. The caller was able to give police the license plate numbers of the vehicle.
Just minutes later, another witness near Airport Road and Circle Drive called police. This caller saw a woman kick the door of the vehicle and scream, "help, he is killing me." The witness saw a man holding the woman down on the passenger seat.
Officers investigating determined the man involved was possibly 49-year-old Robert Leck, who lives on Summer Grace Street.
As police were checking that area, a third witness called to report a disturbance at the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market on Austin Bluffs Parkway. The vehicle in that disturbance matched the descriptions from the previous two callers.
Officers tracked down the SUV and transported the woman involved to the hospital with minor injuries.
Police used a K9 to track down the suspect.
Leck was arrested on charges of 2nd-degree kidnapping, a class 4 felony, and 3rd-degree assault, a class 3 misdemeanor.
Leck also had an outstanding felony warrant for 2nd-degree assault.
