Colo. officials pleased with health care sign-ups

DENVER -

Colorado officials say they are pleased with the state's new health exchange program, despite a few computer problems on opening day.

CEO Patty Fontneau said Wednesday the program is working to improve customer service after more than 79,000 people visited the state's web site and created 5,500 accounts as of 8 p.m. Tuesday. Many people shopped around, visiting 12 million web pages.

Connect for Health Colorado said the average wait time was about 4 minutes, even though the exchange website temporarily was overwhelmed by tens of thousands of visitors for about an hour, briefly preventing consumers from creating new accounts. Wait times fluctuated throughout the day, based on call volume.

Coverage doesn't start until January, and people without health insurance have until the end of March to sign up.
