COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

One man is dead and a teenager is in jail after a stabbing in Colorado Springs.

Avery James Jackson, 17, was taken into police custody Monday night (10/14/13). Jackson is facing first degree murder charges.

The stabbing happened at a home in the 100 block of Chelton Road early Monday morning. When officers arrived, they found Norzell Badger Jr., 34, with stab wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Badger's death has been ruled a homicide.

Melisiekay Williams grew up on the street. Her mom lives a few doors down from the crime scene.

"Nothing like this has ever happened," said Williams.

She said it's a safe neighborhood but it does make her worry.

"In recent years there has been crime activity on opposite sides (of my mom's home) -- on Pikes Peak Avenue, Bijou Street, the surrounding areas. I haven't been worried about this particular block, but it does make you wonder," said Williams.

Police say this is the 26th homicide in Colorado Springs this year. There were 19 homicides at this time last year. There were 22 homicides total in 2012.
