Colorado Springs, Colo -

Canon City residents and members of its law enforcement community are in shock, reeling from the loss of two of its finest after an apparent murder-suicide Thursday night.

Grief counselors are now helping members of the Canon City Police Department cope with this tragedy. Police say Daniel Samento murdered his wife, Priscilla, before turning the gun on himself at the couple's home. Daniel was an officer with Canon City PD until his retirement in 2011. Priscilla worked as a dispatcher for more than 20 years.

"When these things happen and you see them on the news," neighbor Diane McNeave said, "you say oh what a shock, but when it's people you know and they're good people, it does more than shock you. You feel it to the core."

There is a growing memorial that includes flowers on two rocking chairs where the Samento's front lawn.

Grief counselors will remain aiding and comforting the couple's co-workers through Monday.
