De-Icer shortage in Colorado Springs
Along with the snow a shortage of anti-icing and de-icer is impacting Colorado Springs.
The limited supply has the city streets department switching vendors to keep up with demand.
Heavy snow is always a challenge.
But a shortage of de-icer makes an already demanding situation, more difficult.
"Essentially we're having a statewide shortage. Anybody who's using ice-slicer as a deicing product is having issues right now," said Colorado Springs streets manager, Corey Farkas.
Colorado Springs is just one of many cities across the state not getting deliveries on time.
“I don't know why they're having the issue. I just know it impacts our operations so we've gone to other suppliers to make sure that that doesn't happen,” said Farkas.
KRDO Newschannel 13 spoke with the company that provides the de-icer. A spokesperson for Envirotech said it's having problems transporting supplies.
"We've been definitely, I wouldn't say holding back, but managing our materials very closely," said Farkas.
But deliveries from the new vendors have come in, and more are on the way.
“We at the streets division we have taken a very proactive approach to the issue. It really opens up your eyes and makes you really look at your materials and what you're doing with them," said Farkas.
The streets division in Pueblo also orders de-icer from the same company that's having problems. However, the streets manager said the city of Pueblo still has plenty of supplies from the last order.
