District 38 is moving the elementary school day ahead by five minutes.
Beginning on January 13, 2014, the school day will begin at 8:50a.m.
Morning elementary bus routes will also be adjusted by five minutes to accommodate the new schedule.
The school district said it made the decision to start elementary school earlier after a number of school delays and cancellations due to poor weather in the first semester. By increasing the school day by five minutes, the school district explained it will be better able to ensure students complete an adequate number of class hours to fulfill state requirements for attendance.
The district added, the change will also serve as a contingency plan in the event of delays and cancellations this semester.
