Donations needed as Black Forest braces for winter

People who lost their homes in the Black Forest Fire need winter items as cold weather approaches.

Five months after the Black Forest Fire, people who lost their homes face a new challenge, winter. One group of volunteers hopes to help.

Black Forest Crosses For Losses is collecting winter items for people living in camps on the land where their homes used to be.

"We still have hundreds of families that are in campers, trailers, cars, tents," volunteer Jenny Holiday said.

Holiday and other volunteers worry about how the families will get through the cold weather. They are asking for blankets and winter clothing. Their biggest needs are adult winter clothes, coats, gloves and boots, especially for men.

"It is absolutely critical that they get them before we have stories of people not surviving the winter," founder Amanda Davis said.

Donations can be dropped off at Black Forest Crosses For Losses located at the intersection of Black Forest Road and Shoup Road. The distribution center is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m to 5 p.m. Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. And Sunday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
