Smoke cast a shadow on summer fun for vacationers at Lathrop State Park in Walsenburg Saturday while fire evacuees kept close eye on the fire.

Huerfano County -

Emergency management officials in Huerfano Co. report that the East Peak Fire is officially controlled.

The Bureau of Land Management conducted a scene survey Monday afternoon and reported the fire to be fully controlled and contained.

No smoke of flare-ups have been reported for over a week.

According to the BLM, recent heavy rains over the burn area have been a great help.

Officials say smoke may appear from time to time in the upper reaches along the East Peak, but that is normal, and fully contained, and should burn out or will be extinguished by winter snows.

The East Peak fire started on June 19, 2013.

It has burned 13,572 acres.
