Elbert County Lifts Evacuation

Published On: Jun 15 2013 10:30:16 AM CDT

Mandatory evacuations have ended for all but the southwest corner of the county nearest the Black Forest Wildfire.

ELBERT COUNTY, Colo. -

The Elbert county sheriff's office released a statement lifting all evacuations:

"As of 8:00 am, all Elbert County residents may return home.

There are no Elbert County evacuation orders at this time.

Fire commanders have controlled any further concern for the northern portions of the El Paso / Black Forest fire that directly affected the southern evacuated areas of Elbert County.

Please continue to monitor Elbert County Sheriff on facebook, @sheriffheap on Twitter,

or at www.elbertcountysheriff.com for continued information.

There is a dedicated website for those who are looking for animals that were evacuated in their absence. Please go to “black forest fire lost and found pets” on Facebook to upload pictures of any animals you may have rescued and are at your residence or to locate animals.

If you have evacuated animals located at the Elbert County Fairgrounds, please check the

Sheriff’s Office website at www.elbertcountysheriff for a coordinated schedule of removal times to ensure the safety of owners and animals. Given the large number of animals currently located at the fairgrounds, incident commanders must ensure the safety of all those wishing to remove animals on the grounds.

Please ensure that you are monitoring the air quality in your area. Refrain from outside activities if the air quality in your area is compromised."
