Former Air Force chaplain pleads guilty to child sex assault

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

Retired Air Force chaplain David Grosse, 79, plead guilty to one count of sex assault on a child by a person in a position of trust Monday.

Grosse was originally facing four counts of child sex assault and took a plea deal.

Court documents indicate Grosse targeted young girls who were relatives or close family friends, and asked him not to talk about what was happening so he wouldn't get in trouble.

Four people recounted multiple incidents with Grosse in which he reportedly touched them inappropriately, laid with them in bed, or visited them in the bathroom. In some of those cases, the victims said Grosse was naked.

Grosse spent 30 years in the Air Force as a chaplain. He retired in 1993 with a Legion of Merit award. One social media site in Grosse's name indicates that he spent most of that time in Colorado Springs but does not detail when he may have been out of the state, other than for education.

Grosse received secondary and seminary education at several schools including Yale University Divinity School, Eastern Nazarene College and Nazarene Theological Seminary through the 1950s and early 60s. In the 1970s, Grosse attended Boston University School of Education.

He'll be sentenced in August.
