A man who was featured as one of the DA's most wanted fugitives on KRDO NewsChannel 13 has been convicted of sexual assault on a child.
A jury found Ronald Stanley guilty on all of the charges against him, including sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust and child enticement.
Stanley was featured on our DA's most wanted segment after the district attorney's office says he skipped out on a court date in 2011. He was arrested in Spokane, WA in August of 2013.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says that the investigation into Stanley began in December 2009 after a 10-year-old girl accused him of inappropriate sexual contact.
Stanley's home was searched in February 2010, during which time several computers and other digital devices were seized.
The sheriff's office says that during a forensic examination of Stanley's computer detectives found multiple versions of what it calls a "grooming" document.
Investigators say the document was over 800 pages long in one version and contained thousands of pornographic images, including child pornography. They say the document also described in detail Stanley’s step by step plan to manipulate or “groom” his victim into engaging in sex acts with him. Included in this document were multiple pictures of Stanley exposing himself and altered pictures of the victim to make it appear as though she was engaging in sexual activity.
Stanley faces eight years to life in prison. Sentencing has been scheduled for June 25, 2014.
