Former Lake County Employee Arrested Following Months-Long Investigation
John Thomas “Tommy” Taylor a former employee of Lake County in the Office of Land Use, Maintenance and Building Department, was arrested yesterday on charges of possession with intent to sell prescription drugs.
He is also being charged with criminal solicitation for trying to involve co-workers in the alleged crimes.
District Attorney Bruce Brown said of the pending prosecution, “These charges are serious felonies for which commitment to the Department of Corrections is a possible sentence.”
This case has been under investigation by the District Attorney’s office and local authorities for several months.
Police say between March 2011 and November 2012, Taylor asked a number of his coworkers to purchase painkillers for him in exchange for money. Among the drugs solicited by Taylor were Oxycodone, Percocet, Oxycontin, and Vicodin.
"Anytime a government employee engages in criminal activity it threatens to damage the public’s trust in government. We initiate such prosecutions with great seriousness.”, said Brown.
Taylor has bonded out of jail on $15,000.
A court date has been set in September.
