It was a working Memorial Day long holiday weekend for 11 Fort Carson soldiers from the Fourth Engineer Battalion. They worked long hours for four days in Moore, Okla. What needed to be done was done says 1st Ltnt Chad Baker, "They had jobs for everyone, from carrying water in and out of trucks to clearing away debris from tornado hit homes. When you get to ground zero and see all that, there are hundreds of people helping and they still need more people."
Chad and his men didn't flinch to volunteer for this duty. They felt it was their duty, "A lot of my guys didn't have any money and we went down there. They were still willing to volunteer and I felt very proud of them. It says a lot about you. They were willing to help brothers and sisters in need in this country. It's nice to see that."
That's why are honoring this group of soldiers as our Wear Red Friday Heroes. If you know someone who is deserving of this title, go back to our homepage and send me more about this person or people. I would love to read it, interview them and let Southern Colorado know their story. They can be military or those who support the military.
