Daniel Barkus, El Paso County Sheriff's Office mug shot

A Fountain Police officer was arrested Tuesday night by El Paso County Sheriff's Deputies on suspicion of stalking.

The incident happened around 10:00 o'clock Tuesday night near 810 Crystal Park Road, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies say a man reported he was being harassed and when deputies arrived the investigation revealed that probable cause existed for the charge of stalking, which is a class 5 felony.

A short time later deputies observed Daniel Barkus in a vehicle nearby and arrested him, according to the sheriff's office.

Barkus was booked into the El Paso County Jail for stalking, according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. He has since posted bond and is no longer in jail.

Once it was determined Barkus was a Fountain police officer, the Sheriff's Office notified supervisors at the Fountain Police Department of the arrest.
