Fundraiser for family of woman murdered in Black Forest
Less than six months after the Black Forest fire, the community was shocked again by a double murder.
In November, El Paso County Detectives believe Kenneth Lankford, 46, murdered 51-year-old Carol Fowler, and shot her husband, Tom, in the face before going on to murder his own wife, Terry Lankford, 51.
“My parents never knew him. We never knew him,” said Joelle Fowler about her parents. “Wrong place at the wrong time.”
Joelle opened up for the first time about that day at a fundraiser being held for her family at the Brunswick Zone XL, where she has worked since it opened. One dollar from every game bowled Monday night will be donated to the Fowler family.
“We as a management team decided to do something for her,” said manager Eric Thomas. “We all hurt when it happened; it broke all of our hearts.”
Joelle’s job may have spared her life too, as she was at work when her parents were attacked.
“I got a call near the end of my shift. The hospital called. It was unexpected because I normally don’t receive calls while I’m at work,” Joelle said.
Tom Fowler was at the Brunswick Zone XL Monday, bowling with his two children. It took two months to recover from the gunshot wound he received to the face. Tom declined to talk on the record about what happened in November, but it’s his strength that is helping to heal his family.
“Since my dad has been slowly healing and progressing, it’s just helped me a lot. Its kept me strong to see him getting stronger,” Joelle said.
Kenneth Lankford is due in court again on April 3rd.
If you would like to help the Fowler family this website has been set up for donations.
