Girlfriend of Braden Butson said she was shocked to know he and his brother and father were accused serial bank robbers.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

The father-and-sons trio accused of committing multiple bank robberies stood before a judge to be advised of their charges Monday. But a woman close to them said they're no criminals.

Rachel McCabe said she has been dating one of the suspects, Braden Butson, for five years.

"He's so mellow, and relaxed, and is just so giving to other people, so for him to take something was not like him," she said.

McCabe said she was surprised when her sister sent her surveillance photos she saw on TV from the bank robberies. She recognized the faces.

"I didn't want to believe it," she said. "It was too shocking to me."

McCabe said she confronted the trio.

"I was like, 'Have you guys been robbing banks?'" she said. "And then they were all quiet and stared at me and I just walked out the door."

Braden, Nicolas and their father Brock Butson stood before a judge Monday, one by one, to hear their charges. They include robbery, conspiracy to commit a robbery and attempted robbery.

Still, McCabe said she's standing by her boyfriend and his family.

"They committed a crime, but they're not exactly criminals," she said. "They're such a loving family and they're such sweet people."
