An idea from a Colorado Springs girl resulted in financial help for two families who lost homes in the Black Forest Fire.
Last Thursday, Ava Uebelhoer, 7, opened a lemonade stand outside the hair salon where her mother works, Salon Charis, near the intersection of Academy Boulevard and Flintridge Drive.
Jennifer Uebelhoer, Ava's mother, said her daughter made $300 selling lemonade and cookies.
"We just kind of joked around that maybe we'd raise $25 to $30," said Uebelhoer. "But it just took off beyond what we expected."
The Uebelhoers attend Crossroads Chapel near the intersection of Interquest and Voyager parkways. Two families that lost homes in the wildfire received the money.
"The lady in the back who I gave it to was just sobbing," said Ava.
The Uebelhoers said they may reopen the stand later and raise more money for fire victims.
