2011 was the deadliest year in Colorado Springs history with 32 total homicides. At this time in 2011, there were 12 homicides.

KRDO NewsChannel 13 asked the Colorado Springs Police Department about the city being on pace to break records. The following is the statement from CSPD in its entirety:

"Unfortunately, when reviewing the facts of investigations, there is not a trend revealed that could be used to alert detectives to the potential of a homicide. Our detectives are dedicated to providing the best response possible to these tragic events. We work tirelessly on every investigation, with the goal of bringing justice to victims' families. We take pride in the fact that our ability to solve these senseless crimes - consistently exceeds the national average."
