Hundreds of burglaries solved, 7 people arrested in El Paso County

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says it has cleared hundreds of burglary cases from the Monument and Black Forest areas.
The investigation began when deputies noticed a spike in burglary reports beginning in February 2014.
The sheriff's office says the cases were unique in that residents were reporting having seen a suspicious person wearing a reflective safety vest in the area when the crimes were committed. That information was sent out to neighborhood watch coordinators in the area and that's what cracked the case.
A tip about a suspicious person wearing a reflective vest led to the first arrest, which in turn to lead to several others.

The sheriff's office says more than $100,000 worth of stolen property was recovered during the execution of seven search warrants during the investigation.
Several cases involved the theft of motor vehicles and firearms all of which have been recovered and returned to the owners. Additional recovered stolen property included jewelry, money and appliances.
At one location, the amount of stolen property prompted the need for deputies to rent a 26 foot U-Haul to transport the property to the Evidence Facility.
The Sheriff's Office says many of the victims have already identified and claimed their property.
