The Antlers Hilton Hotel / File

Colorado Springs Police say a 16-year-old runaway who checked into the Antlers Hilton Hotel with a stolen credit card was able to escape arrest by shimmying down the side of the hotel on a rope he made by tying sheets together.

Police were called to the hotel at 4 S. Cascade Ave. just after 1 a.m. on May 19, 2014.

Officers say the teen used a relative's credit card to book a room on the fourth floor of the hotel. The relative called police after learning about the fraudulent activity.

Police tried to contact the teen, but there was no response. Officers had to wait for a search warrant to force their way in.

When officers finally got into the room they discovered that the teen had used several bed sheets to shimmy his way down from the fourth floor room.

Police believe the teen and an acquaintance got on a Greyhound bus and left Colorado Springs.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest, but he has not been found.

The teen's name has not been released.
